What is LEAP

IMG_013LEAP is a non-profit education foundation that annually organizes a youth leadership program held at UCLA.  Each year, hundreds of students travel from across the globe to attend LEAP’s week-long program dedicated to helping young adults uncover the “real-life” skills needed to achieve great success.

LEAP’s goal is to help young people from around the world find professional and personal success by teaching them real-life keys to success such goal-setting, mentorship, self-motivation, professionalism, and effective communication skills.  All of these skills are vital to success, yet omitted from traditional educational system.

LEAP hosts two programs which run concurrently during the week-long LEAP Leadership Seminar: The LEAP High School Program (grades 9–12) and The LEAP Young Adult Program (18-24 year olds). Each program has the same core-curriculum. Students learn social and business etiquette, effective communication, how to find a mentor, how to acquire confidence, to set goals, make the most of their high school and college experience, study smarter, identify and create a career plans, network professionally, manage money, and maintain a healthy body and mind.  Click to jump ahead and learn about LEAP’s Curriculum.

What makes LEAP impactful is not just the curriculum, but the the way that it is presented.  LEAP teaches these skills with the help of the nation’s top success and motivational speakers. Speakers share their life experiences, which are weaved into the curriculum. By having exciting and high-profile speakers, LEAP teaches Systems for Success in a unique way and gives life to otherwise “dull” topics.  Click to jump ahead and learn about LEAP’s Past Speakers.

Before moving on, we recommend watching the attached video.  It’s 10 minutes long, but it gives you an outstanding idea of the LEAP Program, LEAP Curriculum & LEAP Experience.

History

No-Name-Leap2011_909

The LEAP Foundation was formed in 2008 when co-founders, Dr. Bill Dorfman and Steve Anderson, recognized that today’s youth are lacking real-life skills and habits needed to achieve personal and professional success.  To fill that need, they created an educational curriculum focusing on educating young adults in the importance of goal-setting, effective communication, and the invaluable power of mentorship.

The first LEAP Program was held in August of 2008 and hosted 97 students.  This group of LEAPers has since gone on to achieve outstanding success in the classroom, on the sports field, and in their careers.  Many of these original LEAPers return to the program each summer as volunteer “LEAP Coaches”.

The program has continued to grow each year in both size & in reputation.  LEAP 2015, was a milestone event as LEAP celebrated its sixth annual program.  With more than 450 participants, representing over 10 countries – 2015 LEAP was the Foundation’s most diverse and energetic program to date!

In honor of our Five Year Anniversary, LEAP received a Certificate of Recognition from the State of California in honor of the tremendous impact we’ve had on those who’ve attended the program.  A number of other honors have been awarded to LEAP over the years, and you can find some of them on the “LEAP Believers” page.
